Three topics for final writing discussion

Three topics that I am interested in is social media, school, and eating disorders.
Social media is a problem that every teenager and adult struggles with.  This topic is very broad and can be talked about easily. The different types of social media sites affect people in different ways.  Almost everyone has had facebook, twitter, or instagram in their life. Instagram makes people feel bad about themselves when they see others on a beach, their love life, or anyting else going well in their life. The person viewing this may feel down about their life on how it does not live up to other's. Twitter and Facebook can cause many arguments. Lately, many people have gotten into silly arguments over things like sports games, relationships, or other things. This is a type of bullying that is growing in our world. To raise awareness, students could stop using social media sites for a few days and see how their lives change. I would guess that their would be less drama and less stress on lives.

Education has changed throughout the years. In our lives today, it doesn't matter if you understand the topic you are learning. The only thing students care about in school is passing; whether or not they understand the topic or not.  Our schooling system focuses on grades rather than understandment.  This problem causes students to cheat rather than do their own work.  I feel that the school needs to take a stand in changing their grading system. Many schools have made the change in quizing students on the topic they are learning without a grade rather than having the grade matter. Grades, in my opinion, should not matter. Getting into college should not be based on your grades throughout school. If a person understand the subject, why should the grade matter?

My last topic is eating disorders. Eating disorders are not disorders that cause people to starve themselves, they are also disorders that cause over-eating. These disorders have grown in the past years in the United States in throughout the world.  Many things that cause eating disorders are the media, self image, and personal relationships. The media has caused many people to view themselves as fat, or not up to the societies standards. When watching tv shows, the actors are ALWAYS perfect. This causes many females and sometimes males to feel down about themselves. There are ways to prevent this disorder. Just changing how you view yourself can help, but there are eating disorder clincs in any town.

Persuasive essay topics

The first topic that interested me was hazing. Throughout the years, hazing has become a rising problem.  Hazing involves a person physcially or mentally abusing another person. To become part of a group in schools or colleges, hazing is used when deciding who to bring in the group.   Hazing may even occur at the workplace, where new employees may be taunted, harassed or forced to perform humiliating acts before they are accepted by coworkers.  There have been many laws passed in fraterinties and sororities to outlaw hazing in their school.  Hazing has resulted in the death or serious injury of students who are pressured into joining a group and who endure brutal hazing simply to gain the respect of their peers.

Another topic I found interesting was identity theft. In the world today, identity theft has grown.  In identity theft, criminals can obtain identity data in several ways like: social security number, drivers license, credit card, and so on.  Even though the person is not buying the items, it still shows up on their credit history and they will have to live with that for the rest of their life. The Internet has vastly expanded the opportunities for identity theft. A theft can access your accounts by knowing a simple login and password or by an email scam.  In 2008, Congress passed a law called FTC which established penalities for stealing an identity. There are many ways to prevent your identity being stolen.

Having an education is the most important thing a person can have. But for the homelesss, they are not able to have this opportunity becuase they can not afford schooling.  A homeless child tends to fall behind in school because they do not have a steady home to fall back on and are more likley to repeat grades.  Having homeless schools will let the children feel welcome and they will be able to learn more knowing that they will stay at that school.

Informative essay

For my informative essay, I think I am going to write about my career which is on the lines of special education.  This topic is important to me because this is what I plan on doing with my life.  I could talk about what majors and minors would be need. Or if you would need a master’s degree or a special degree, what you would need to do to get a job at a school or a hospital. I could talk about the many different career paths for dealing with special education.  There are many like: dealing with kids in a school, occupational therapy, and psychologist. The information would be interesting for others to read if they are interested in the same thing that I am and it is something that I want to learn more about, so it will be good to research for myself.

Informative essay

Since people around the world have to eat, making a sandwhich is an easy meal to make.  Making this easy meal requires only three items; meat, cheese, and bread. You could make it at your home or go to a sub shop and have them make one for you.  Making a sandwhich is one of the easiest meals that one could possibly make.

When I make my sandwhich, I go to subway.  I order a six inch on italian with chicken, bacon, ranch, lettuce, and cumcumber.  After that is on, I decide to melt it, to make the cheese nice and warm.

But if you don't want to go out and buy a sandwhich, making one at home is just as easy.  Sandwhiches require no hard work, just two pieces of bread, meat, and whatever else you want on it and you're done!

Europe

In the early morning on June 12, I was off for my trip to Europe. I was able to have an experience of a lifetime traveling with some of my best friends to some of the most beautiful places in the world.  I realize now how grateful I am for going on this trip, but when I was there, I did not think of it as any big deal. Traveling brings a joy to me, like I am experiencing something new for the first time.  During this trip, I met many new people and I learned the culture of each country that I visited.

Once landing in London, every student could not control their excitement. We were able to meet our tour director, Gwen, which we quickly fell in love with. Gwen took us through our first day of our ten day trip that we were spending it in London.  During the first day, we traveled to the London Eye, took a walking tour of the city, and scoped out the Big Ben.  We had most of this day to explore by ourselves.  Being up in the London Eye, I was able to see the whole city. We were able to see every possible aspect that London had to offer. There was nothing more beautiful than seeing a city from way up high Unfortunately, the weather on this enthusiastic day was not the best. The weather in London is not anything crazy.  It’s not too hot or too cold; the only temperature in London was around the 50s and cloudy.  The next day, we explored St. Pauls Cathedral Church. The view of this church was indescribable; the building was sky high and had windows everywhere you looked. Most of the buildings in London were made of marble, which made it look classy.   But, most of the buildings, clothing, and weather were grey.  But soon enough, this day had to end.

The next few days flew by.  We took a train to the city of fashion, Paris.  Paris is not what people would expect.  I expected a big bright city with huge buildings and lights everywhere; that was false.  Paris is dingy and has old fashioned buildings.  Here, we learned about the rulers of Paris back in the day, and how Paris was built.  Also, we toured through the Notre Dame, which was breathtaking. Unfortunately, I was not able to go inside, but a few of my classmates went through.  They described it as looking through kaleidoscope; it had stain glass windows that covered the wall from head to toe.  The Cathedral was built in the Roman Gothic ages.  The building was made from stone and had gargoyles at every corner, which back in the day had meaning behind it. The gargoyles were meant to fight off evil spirits and to protect the ones inside during the night. But during the day, they were used as water fountains to keep those on the outside cool. Being in the city of fashion, we just had to go shopping.  We spent about a full day shopping and buying souvenirs for our family back home.  Shopping in Pairs is very different than shopping here in the United States.  The sizing chart is different and not very many of the workers speak fluent English.  Being in Paris was an experience; we ate many different foods that I would not try at home.  It was unusual, but fun!

As we traveled by a night train to Italy, I grew more anxious to see how beautiful the land was.  Compared to London and Paris, Italy had the most beautiful scenery.  When we reached Italy, we were able to stop at three of the most famous spots; Florence, Assisi, and Rome.  In Florence, we visited the Duomo. The Duomo was placed in the middle of Florence so people traveling could spot it easily, because of its huge dome like roof.  While staying busy in Florence, Assisi was more of a laid back city.  Assisi was a smaller and on top of a giant hill, which we had to walk up to reach St. Francis.  In Assisi, we were able to shop around in the little stores and eat where we wanted.  Walking around, I was able to find many restaurants that smelled delicious.  Sometimes I was able to smell the garlic from outside the door; it just made my mouth water.  After spending our day in Assisi, it was time to travel to Rome.  Personally, Rome is my favorite.  It was more of the Ancient Rome, which interested me.  Everywhere I looked, I saw buildings made of stone that were tumbling down from being so old.  The building that interested me most was the Coliseum.  The day we went to tour the Coliseum was one of the hottest days in Italy that week. The temperature reached up to about 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which compared to London was scorching.  Because Rome was my favorite, I want to be able to visit there again.  I was not able to see everything Rome had to offer.

Going on this trip really did open my eyes up to how different life is in different countries.  Learning about the many various cultures and how people live their lives in the European land fascinates me.  I am very excited that I am able to share the things I know to others just from going on this trip.  This trip was an experience of a lifetime and I would beg to go on it again.  Being able to learn so much and have so much fun in ten days is a remarkable thing to do.

Summer experience

During the summer, I was able to help special needs children on horses every Tuesday night. Helping out here made me realize how lucky I am to do things on my own.  I could talk about how each one of them had different personalities and little things that made them mad. Also, how their families had to deal with this major life changing experience on how to deal with their child.  These parents have to raise their child for the rest of their lives, which in many cases can be quite difficult.  Dealing with a disabled child is a quite an experience; I enjoy being around them and having their day light up because they are able to see me. Also, they love the animals.  These kids are genuinely sweet, and I could not meet any nicer group of kids.  This experience has changed my life majorly; it made me realize there are worse things in life.

Myself as a writer, I am not the most confident writer.  I was not in Honors last year and that was a major disadvatage to me this year.  I feel that I can not write as well as the others and I do not know all of the writitng styles. My strengths and weaknesses in writing are that I come up with plots very well and I can have my paragraphs flow easily. But, not having much experience writing essays, I feel less confident in the way I write.  Being  a new writer, I need to improve on many things. But, since we did write  essays last year, I am a stronger writer than I think I am.  Writing those few essays did help me out in learning the types of essay styles and how to write them. Also, learning about grammar and sentence structure helped me in the long run.  Grammar is important in everyday life, and also with making sense in your essays. In this class, I want to be able to know the different types of essays and be able to write without a problem.  Also, things I want to benifit from this class is to be able to be ready for college next year. I am excited to have this experience in this class.  It will help with my writing and how confident I become as a writer.  Overall, this class will benifit me in many ways that I am not able to grasp.

Being the first class you teach this year, there are many questions that you can answer.  But my main question is how much will this help me in later life? Will this help me in college, and how much?  I am not worried about not gettting anything out of this class, I just wonder how much I will retain.  Also, how easy is the English 102 test? When will we be able to start studying for that test, and how much will we learn before that test?  I need to improve on my writing style as an individual.  I don't know what type of writing I am comfortable with.  Writing in general is an important task that everyone should learn how to do in life. Why not learn how to master it at such a young age, that way learning things later on in life will be easier? Being a new student in this writing class, I am just nervous, like everyone else in this class. It is something new to all of us, we will all have to go with the flow and learn as we go on.  I know you will teach this class very well and explain everything. I am excited to learn from you, again.
